Two of Ortiz's appearances at the Ultimate Fighting Championship are his most prominent. He was an earlier Light Heavyweight champion and held that title from April 14th, 2000 until September 26 in 2003. Alongside fighters such as Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell, he was one of the early stars in the sport. Ortiz eventually became the most popular pay-per view draw of 2006 thanks to his bouts with Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock.Ortiz is the chief executive officer of Punishment Athletics' MMA equipment as well as clothing line, which is located in his hometown of Huntington Beach, California.
