Taylor
Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop culture: she was the sole celebrity who transitioned from the traditional to the mainstream, and to become a pop icon worldwide. Swift let go of the influences from her country music as if they were an additional layer of skin. She revealed that she was among the most talented singers/songwriters in her time. Swift could make the event personal and use the moment to benefit. It was apparent in her earliest songs especially on the neo tribute towards Tim McGraw. On her 2nd album, Fearless (2008), Swift revealed a singer/songwriter who was beginning to understand her. The album was hugely successful not just in America, where six of its singles were certified platinum on the back of Top Ten hit songs Love Story and you Belong with Me. But the album also enjoyed a great reception across the globe. Swift took off to the peak of stardom after the release of Speak Now. Her popularity only increased over her next three albums -- Red (2012) 1989 (2014) as well as Reputation (2017) and Reputation in 2017 which saw her move into a realm of pop music where she already belonged. It was not long before she changed her strategy with 2020's pared-down siblings the folk singer (and Evermore) and stayed in the forefront of pop culture.
